As we continuously learn more and more about Meghan Markle, the new wife of Prince Harry, we only fall in love with her even more. Everything about her amazes us, her family background, her career goals, and even her fitness regiment. One of the absolute best facts about her though includes a history of activism, before Harry even knew she existed.
After her engagement to the Prince, a video was released again of Markle at merely 11 year old fighting for equality, after she had seen a sexist commercial on TV. It was aired on Nickelodeon Nick News with Linda Ellerbee.
In 2015, Markle shared the story of her first experience advocating for women at a UN Women’s event in Beijing. She delivered a highly inspiring speech where she described an advertisement that disturbed her, proclaiming that Women in America are fighting greasy pots and pans. Little Markle sent letters to the soap company, as well as to other women that she looked up to, such as Hilary Clinton. She also sent a letter to Linda Ellerbee, who ended up interviewing her on Nick News.
Proctor & Gamble, the soap company that initially launched the sexist add in fact changed the word women to people due to Markle’s efforts. Harry picked a good one.
