When someone asks what your favorite movies are, rarely is it the case that one thinks of animated ones. Somehow, we internalize the belief that animated movies are for kids and that liking them is not very adult-like. However, it can be said without a doubt that some of the best movies are, in fact, animated in some form or the other. Below, we list 3 animated films that one should definitely watch at least once in their lifetime!

First up, we have Kiki’s Delivery Service, a Studio Ghibli film by award-winning filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki, who wrote, directed, and produced the film. It’s often hard to find fault with Studio Ghibli films, and Kiki’s Delivery Service is no exception. The story follows Kiki, a young witch, as she gains independence from her parents and flies off to live in a new town. The movie explores themes of freedom, maturity, and change as Kiki tries to find housing accommodation, and a job, while also eventually having to grapple with the loss of her witch powers. An interesting premise, an excellent score, and breathtaking animations make this a must-watch!

Next up is Coraline, a movie adaption of Neil Gaiman’s graphic novel of the same name. A bit darker in tone, which is apparent from the colors and mood of the movie itself, the story follows Coraline as she discovers a gateway into a parallel dimension that threatens to trap her there. A stunning example of stop-motion animation at its finest, this movie can be enjoyed by viewers of all ages!

Lastly, we take a look at Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the first animated feature ever. The story itself is as old as time itself, but this does not make the movie any less amazing than it is. If gothic elements and a trace of German Expressionism is right up your alley, consider giving a shot to the animated feature that made Disney into what it is today.
