Things to avoid while following the Curly Girl Method:

Hair Straightening is a big no. Straightening your hair damages the hair follicles and breaks the protein bonds in the hair that form the curls. Proteins on the hair are extremely heated sensitive and using heat can damage them. Furthermore, we are supposed to avoid sulfates, parabens, and alcohol for the hair. Multiple shampoo companies sell their products claiming that using their product will lead to softer and shinier hair. The goal is not softer and shinier hair, it is much healthier hair. Avoid fragrances as they damage the hair follicle.

How to wash your hair?

The Curly Girl method begins by washing your hair with a product that rinses all the buildup in your hair. Cleanse your hair with a CGM-approved shampoo or conditioner. It is preferable to cleanse your hair once a week. Then you introduce a CGM-approved conditioner to your hair. A leave-in conditioner ensures that your hair follicle doesn’t dry up and the curls are perfected. Divide your hair into multiple locks and evenly spread the hair conditioner. Let it spread with the flow of water. Drying and styling your hair is one of the most important steps in the curly girl method. Do not use a towel. Use a soft cotton t-shirt for drying your hair. When the hair is damp and not wet, apply the leave-in conditioner and scrunch your hair in the upwards direction. Use a hairdryer with the diffuser attachment so that the product gets evenly distributed.
