In the Morning of Life

by Thomas Moore

In the morning of life, when its cares are unknown,
And its pleasures in all their new lustre begin,
When we live in a bright-beaming world of our own,
And the light that surrounds us is all from within;
Oh 'tis not, believe me, in that happy time
We can love, as in hours of less transport we may; —
Of our smiles, of our hopes, 'tis the gay sunny prime,
But affection is truest when these fade away.

When we see the first glory of youth pass us by,
Like a leaf on the stream that will never return,
When our cup, which had sparkled with pleasure so high,
First tastes of the other, the dark-flowing urn;
Then, then in the time when affection holds sway
With a depth and a tenderness joy never knew;
Love, nursed among pleasures, is faithless as they,
But the love born of Sorrow, like Sorrow, is true.

In climes full of sunshine, though splendid the flowers,
Their sighs have no freshness, their odour no worth;
\‘Tis the cloud and the mist of our own Isle of showers
That call the rich spirit of fragrancy forth.
So it is not \‘mid splendour, prosperity, mirth,
That the depth of Love's generous spirit appears;
To the sunshine of smiles it may first owe its birth,
But the soul of its sweetness is drawn out by tears.

Whether you prefer to think of it as life imitating art, or art imitating life, you’re right. Renowned artists from around the world share their insights and perspectives on the good, the bad, and the ugly of today’s modern society. See if you can find every and any hidden messages woven into these cultural works of art.

How Did We Ever Manage?

If you own a smart phone, you’re probably guilty as well. We all love to hang out on the toilet with our phone.

Unexplained Disasters

Some disasters remain better unexplained.

The Perfect Woman

This fascinating illustration has several different interpretations. The use of details to create a sense of motion is one of the more interesting elements of this image. It begs the question: are we moving forward, or backward?

That Super Low Tolerance

This hilarious illustration shows the truth about how drinking tolerances can vary from person to person, and how in many cases, the husband is left carrying his wife up the stairs after a less than rowdy evening.

A Sign Of The Times

Have we completely lost sight of the inner child that longs for adventure, companionship, culture, and so much more? What is most striking about this particular image is the implied affect of technology on younger generations.

Every Body Is Different

Especially when it comes to men and women, every single body is built differently, and sometimes we have to suffer.

Closing Our Eyes For Christmas

We all know that the north pole and Santa’s little helpers doesn’t really exist (sorry kids). But we don’t really like to think about where our toys really come from.

Problems In The Bedroom

There’s new and unprecedented challenges in today’s relationships, including time management and attentiveness. Can our romantic partners really compare to our beloved devices?

The Pressing Issues

via Imgur

Does the media control our free thoughts? Freedom of expression is shown in many different ways in this image, but literally and metaphorically. Can you spot them all?

What Would We Do Without Smartphones

Seriously, where we would be without smartphones to remind us about everything and anything? It’s pretty sad that there’s where we gotten ourselves, but hey – at least he remembered their anniversary and made her happy, right?

A Glimpse of Perspective

via Imgur

Gone are the days of picking up a newspaper and discussing today’s current events with any and all who care to engage. The door is always open, as the image suggests, but our preference to use Facebook as our eyes into the outside world, we limit how much we are really able to see.

How We Rank

It’s rather depressing that the number of followers, likes, and comments and any kind of attention we get on social media is the only thing nowadays that can give us legitimacy.

The Cycle of Expectations

Is beauty on the inside, or is beauty in the eye of the beholder? Either way, there is a troubling contradiction between empowerment and societal norms within nearly every female-focused industry.

The Difference In Perspectives

Unfortunately, in our society, women tend to be much too hard on themselves, when they are beautiful, and their partner never thought anything less of them. It’s hard for the man to understand the struggle the woman is really going through.

We’ve All Already Fell

If if we haven’t all yet fallen off of a cliff, we’re all already entered a very slippery slope and anything can happen.

The Obsession To Detail

We all have an obsession with perfection when it comes our appearance, stressing about every single little mark or hair out of place. And when it comes to our partner? Oh boy.

The Missed Opportunity

What kinds of thinks would you have done if you weren’t afraid to fail? When we limit ourselves, and when we limit others, our society loses an immeasurable amount of potential.
