It Couldn't Be Done

By Edgar Guest

Somebody said that it couldn't be done But he with a chuckle replied That "maybe it couldn't," but he would be one Who wouldn't say so till he'd tried. So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin On his face. If he worried he hid it. He started to sing as he tackled the thing That couldn't be done, and he did it!

Somebody scoffed: "Oh, you'll never do that; At least no one ever has done it;" But he took off his coat and he took off his hat And the first thing we knew he'd begun it. With a lift of his chin and a bit of a grin, Without any doubting or quiddit, He started to sing as he tackled the thing That couldn't be done, and he did it.

There are thousands to tell you it cannot be done, There are thousands to prophesy failure, There are thousands to point out to you one by one, The dangers that wait to assail you. But just buckle in with a bit of a grin, Just take off your coat and go to it; Just start in to sing as you tackle the thing That "cannot be done," and you'll do it.

This week Beyonce stunned fans with her Netflix special, Homecoming: A Film By Beyonce. And in typical Beyonce style, that isn’t all; there are reportedly more projects to come. According to Variety, Beyonce struck a $60 million dollar deal with Netflix for 3 exclusive specials, including the documentary Homecoming. The documentary chronicles the Grammy winning performer’s 2018 Coachella performance in which she became the first black woman to headline the festival. The price tag on that instalment was about $20 million dollars, according to Variety. But it seems that it wasn’t enough for the Houston born artist. At the same time Homecoming was released, Beyonce surprised fans with a live album. Netflix was not the only media company after Queen Bey. Reportedly, HBO was interested in the projects as well. But ultimately, Netflix struck a more attractive offer.

Homecoming is Beyonce’s personal project that she wrote, directed, and produced herself. The documentary exploded on the internet, including her friend Michelle Obama! The news that there is more to come drove fans into a frenzy. The Daily Mail reported that the next two projects have yet to be announced, so Beyonce’s role in them is not known. Vulture reported that the deal was competitive; HBO was looking to get in on the deal, too. But Netflix ultimately won out on the Coachella degocumantery because they paid more for it than any other company. Reportedly, HBO couldn’t “justify” spending the amount of money that Netflix was. For those who remember, HBO ran Beyonce’s 2016 Lemonade, and her 2013 documentary Life Is a Dream and her On the Run concert special.

During her epic Coachella performance, Beyonce came prepared to leave her mark. She brought a marching band with 200 members, dancers, and background singers for a full 2 hour concert. It was a show unlike any other performed at the music festival and Homecoming is a documentary to remind the world that the festival won’t ever have another performance like hers again.

The documentary is more than just a recap of the legendary performance. It shows us that her performance was an experience that left an impact that will be felt for decades. It cuts from concert footage to candid personal videos of Blue Ivy in a dance rehearsal. The film celebrates black culture, her growth as an artist, wife and mother. The documentary is a testament to her hard work and planning as a businesswoman and artist. Beyonce proves that she is Queen for a reason: she unites us all.
