Billie Eilish Opened Up To Billie Joe Armstrong About Her Rough Time on Tour
Laura Lee - December 5, 2019

The coolest thing that could have happened in an emo-punk-loving-teen’s life is Green Day legend Billie Joe Armstrong sitting down for a joint interview with Billie Eilish. And it happened. And it was as amazing as you would want it to be. There’s a moment where Eilish teaches Armstrong on the correct usage of “on fleek.” But there are also other moments where Eilish called Armstrong the “hardest” for kicking someone in the head during a concert. The 17-year-old also opened about her struggles with touring and her fears about her next album.

“I don’t mean the shows. The shows are always my favorite part. But it was just traveling and being alone all the time, on a cold bus in Europe, horrible food, and when you come back, everyone’s kind of moved on from you. This last tour I went on was the first I’ve ever enjoyed. I feel like I have this amazing thing that now I actually see.”

Back in September, Eilish sprained her ankle at the beginning of a show in Italy and then in October, someone stole one of her rings.

The conversation took a quick turn to more positive topics like when Eilish used to have Armstrong as her phone wallpaper. Relatable. One great moment came when the two stars agreed that “genre” is dead.

Armstrong: You’re part of a generation where music becomes, like, genre-fluid.
Eilish: Oh, I can’t stand that!
Armstrong: Stand what?
Eilish: Genres!
Armstrong: I thought you meant “genre-fluid.” Like, “What you said was bullshit!”
Eilish: I bet it was hard to kind of be in a world where it was only genres. Right now, it’s kind of like there’s no limit to what genre you can put yourself in. There’s still a little bit of a barrier, but I think when people were trying to be not everything else, there was a line. But people were like, “Wait, we like everything else!”

Basically, the two legends made for a legendary interview!
