Blackpink are a South Korean girl group who are taking over the music industry one banger at a time. Everyone in the industry wants to collaborate with the Korean pop megastars including Dua Lipa, Lady Gaga, and now Selena Gomez. Blackpink recently announced that Selena Gomez will appear on the group’s forthcoming single on August 28th. So, yeah, get ready for #selfpink! The new track will be the second single from band members Jennie, Jisoo, Lisa and Rosé’s highly anticipated debut album. The album is set for release via YG Entertainment and Interscope Records on October 2. “So SO excited to announce @ygofficialblink and I have a new song coming out August 28th!” wrote Gomez on Twitter. “You’re gna melt,” vocalist Jennie wrote alongside her Instagram post of the news.
The band are seriously on a roll this year with their July single, “How You Like That” totally making huge waves. So the addition of another female powerhouse like Selena Gomez is going to push them even further ahead in the game. “How You Like That” debuted at No. 33 on the Billboard Hot 100, making Blackpink the all-woman K-pop act with the highest number of Hot 100 entries in history. The accompanying vibrant visual for “How You Like That” was the first in YouTube history to cross 10 million likes and broke the YouTube record for most views in 24 hours. The Gomez collaboration news was previously an unconfirmed rumor, so fans were understandably to get their hopes up too high. But now that it’s official, Blinks and Selenators have joined hands on the internet to collectively celebrate.
Blackpink and Gomez may be on different sides of the world during the pandemic, but that didn’t stop the stars from connecting over FaceTime to chat about their collab in a new teaser video. During the call, Rosé thanks Gomez for jumping on the track, admitting the Blackpink girls have “been a big fan of [hers] for a long time.” The pop singer replied, “I’m so stoked,” letting them know the feeling and fandom are most definitely mutual. “This is a big, big dream for me and I can’t wait.”
