Chocolate chip cookies will never get old. Their ooey-gooey center, crispy and crunchy edges, and chocolate chunks are a favorite in our book. But is it possible we can crank them up a notch by using an air fryer? We know what you must be thinking. How can you possibly make chocolate chip cookies in an air fryer? There’s no way. The air fryer is usually reserved for baking french fries or chicken. So when a trick like this comes out, we must get down to the bottom of it and find out if this is really true. The chocolate chip cookie is a fan favorite that’s been oven-baked for as long as we can remember. So let’s find out if our favorite dessert can truly be elevated by this household appliance.
New York City-based baker, Zoe Kanan has revealed her secret to making gourmet-level cookies by using the air fryer. An air fryer acts as a small but might convection oven, so cookies bake to a perfect consistency. The air fryer makes the outside of the cookies crispy and scrunchy edges, but with a fudgy inside. Sounds like the perfect cookie to us. But there is a trick to this method. Kanan suggests lining the bottom of the air fryer rack with a piece of tin foil. She says if you are using room temperature cookie dough to only air fry four cookies at a time at about 350 degrees Fahrenheit for about ten minutes. For the frozen cookie dough, lower the temperature to about 270 degrees Fahrenheit for eleven to thirteen minutes.
The most important part when it comes to this method of cookie baking is to allow them to sit for five minutes after baking. We know it may be tempting to take a big bite out of one, allowing them to cool will give them time to crisp up so they don’t crumble in your hands. Ina Garten, the American author, and host of the Food Network program Barefoot Contessa once said, “You can be miserable before you have a cookie and you can be miserable after you eat a cookie but you can’t be miserable while you are eating a cookie.” Very wise words if we do say so ourselves. So the next time a cookie craving strikes, why not try out the air fryer method for yourself and just wait for your kitchen to smell like your very own bakery.
