Fun Facts About the 2019 American Music Awards Nominations
Marc Gordon - December 1, 2019

The 2019 American Music Awards are going to be epic! From new artists like Billie Eilish and Lil Nas X up for five and six awards to newcomers like Halsey who is nominated for the first time this year, it’s a tight race. And then to shake things up we are going to see Elton John, too, who was nominated for favorite pop/rock male artist at the very first AMAs in 1974. He is nominated again for tour of the year! And that’s not all- Billy Ray Cyrus has four nominations this year for “Old Town Road,” his megahit collaboration with Lil Nas X.

Post Malone is this year’s top nominee, in the race for seven nominations. He’s up again for the favorite male artists for pop/rock this year which he won in 2018. If he wins, he’ll become the first artist to win back-to-back awards in that category since Michael Bolton in 1992-93. And did you know that Post was nominated for new artist of the year two years ago, but lost to Niall Horan.

Pop princess Taylor Swift is nominated for five awards this year. If she wins just one, she’ll tie with Michael Jackson, a 24-time AMA winner, as the top winner in the show’s history. If she wins two awards, Swift will hold the record. Swift is the artist with the most nominations for artist of the year. This is her sixth. She has won in that category a record of four times.

Swift’s fifth album got her a nomination in pop/rock. That puts her in a tie with Jackson and the Eagles for the most nominations in the history of the category. If Swift wins, she’ll tie with Jackson and Justin Bieber for the most wins in the history of the category.

And after 20 years of being in the spotlight, P!nk could finally win her first AMA this year. She’s been nominated for tour of the year and favorite artist- adult contemporary.

We’ll just have to wait and see!
