In the Morning of Life

by Thomas Moore

In the morning of life, when its cares are unknown,
And its pleasures in all their new lustre begin,
When we live in a bright-beaming world of our own,
And the light that surrounds us is all from within;
Oh 'tis not, believe me, in that happy time
We can love, as in hours of less transport we may; —
Of our smiles, of our hopes, 'tis the gay sunny prime,
But affection is truest when these fade away.

When we see the first glory of youth pass us by,
Like a leaf on the stream that will never return,
When our cup, which had sparkled with pleasure so high,
First tastes of the other, the dark-flowing urn;
Then, then in the time when affection holds sway
With a depth and a tenderness joy never knew;
Love, nursed among pleasures, is faithless as they,
But the love born of Sorrow, like Sorrow, is true.

In climes full of sunshine, though splendid the flowers,
Their sighs have no freshness, their odour no worth;
\‘Tis the cloud and the mist of our own Isle of showers
That call the rich spirit of fragrancy forth.
So it is not \‘mid splendour, prosperity, mirth,
That the depth of Love's generous spirit appears;
To the sunshine of smiles it may first owe its birth,
But the soul of its sweetness is drawn out by tears.

We’re all on a path to stay active, confident, and healthy throughout our lives. And a great way to add some brightness, sweetness, and health to our day is by whipping up a delicious smoothie! Especially with fall and winter right around the corner, we want to load up on nutrients and immune-nourishing foods. Whether you start your morning with a green smoothie or treat yourself to a tropic treat, smoothies can be a perfect addition to your diet during the fall and winter months. Of course, choosing the right ingredients is key when the goal is to support overall health. Yeah, we all love a good peanut butter chocolate deluxe milkshake now and then, but that isn’t our goal here! Aim to pick nutrient-rich foods like fruits, vegetables, and plant-based milk to provide your body with essential vitamins, minerals and more to stay in good health. Alongside these immunity-supporting recipes, remember to get good sleep and practice other healthy lifestyle habits!

Banana Berry Peanut Butter Smoothie

This sweet and fruity smoothie is packed with fiber and calcium and is a great way to add vegetables into your day. Pair it with yogurt and peanut butter for protein and your taste buds will thank you! Add a banana, strawberries, broccoli (surprise!), yogurt, peanut butter, and a splash of water. Blend until smooth and enjoy! You might be surprised to read that broccoli is in this one, but it actually contains almost 80 mg of vitamin C- that’s more than a medium-sized orange!

Pumpkin Smoothie

This list wouldn’t be complete without fall favorite: pumpkin! This recipe includes pumpkin puree, frozen yogurt, and pumpkin spice (yessss) and can be ready in minutes whenever that PSL craving hits! You can buy pumpkin puree in the store or make it at home yourself! Slice open a pumpkin, remove the seeds and pulp inside. Bake those two sides until tender, let it cool, scoop out the good stuff, and blend that baby up!

Fig Honey Yogurt Smoothie

What could possibly be bad about this recipe? It’s basically a healthy dessert in a cup you can eat for breakfast. Figs taste amazing on their own, but they taste even better in a smoothie. This smoothie blends dessert-like flavors into a creamy meal that is so satisfying. Don’t worry about the calories either- at 358 calories and 12 grams of protein, it’s a smart option.
