Jeans Aren’t As Boring As They Used To Be
Ashley Jobrien - December 20, 2021

Believe it or not, there was a time when even fashionistas couldn’t stand looking at a stiff pair of boring jeans. Yes, it was still a staple in just about everyone’s closet, but it definitely wasn’t an item piece. Thanks to Gen Z’s cool and slouchy styles, jeans were kind of put on the back burner. Many people were replacing their tight jeans with baggy sweats and fun printed pants. But they are making their well-awaited comeback. Jeans have been given a new meaning this season.

Designers are looking at denim through a new lens and creating a twist on the American classic. For instance, Chloe has created denim sleeveless tops, trench coats, and midi dresses along with recycled wood buttons instead of metal. This sustainably minded thinking is coming at a great time because there is more demand now than ever for clothing to be environmentally conscious. This could be why more and more brands are focusing on upcycling or starting from scratch. We’ll never say no to responsible denim. Ganni’s creative director Ditte Reffstrup said, “Denim has this great ability to make you feel capable of anything when you wear it. I think that’s a mindset that resonates with the American woman.”

We’re just happy that more designers are putting their faith back in denim. For many people, this newfound love in denim comes from missing the feeling of wearing jeans. Lisa Buhler, the founder and CEO of the Indie boutique and brand Lisa Says Gah said, “I’m learning that denim is a part of my core style identity—recently revealed by having two kids under two right now, coupled with the pandemic. I realized it had been missing for me for nearly two years. I am happy to be back participating in ‘hard pants’ again.” We can only imagine the sales jeans will have over the next couple of months since everyone’s going to want to get their hands on a pair of statement denim, whether it’s a standout skirt or a pair of good old jeans
