Looking Back

by Edgar A. Guest

I might have been rich if I'd wanted the gold
instead of the friendships I've made.
I might have had fame if I'd sought for renown
in the hours when I purposely played.
Now I'm standing to-day on the far edge of life,
and I'm just looking backward to see
What I've done with the years and the days that were mine,
and all that has happened to me.

I haven't built much of a fortune to leave
to those who shall carry my name,
And nothing I've done shall entitle me now
to a place on the tablets of fame.
But I've loved the great sky and its spaces of blue;
I've lived with the birds and the trees;
I've turned from the splendor of silver and gold
to share in such pleasures as these.

I've given my time to the children who came;
together we've romped and we've played,
And I wouldn't exchange the glad hours spent
with them for the money that I might have made.
I chose to be known and be loved by the few,
and was deaf to the plaudits of men;
And I'd make the same choice should the chance
come to me to live my life over again.

I've lived with my friends and I've shared in their joys,
known sorrow with all of its tears;
I have harvested much from my acres of life,
though some say I've squandered my years.
For much that is fine has been mine to enjoy,
and I think I have lived to my best,
And I have no regret, as I'm nearing the end,
for the gold that I might have possessed.

Although *NSYNC might not be able to be physically together right now, and it’s tearing up all of our hearts, as well as theirs, they still found an epic way to reunite and honor one of their very special band members on his birthday. *NSYNC recently had a virtual reunion in order to celebrate the birthday of Lance Bass, giving us all the ‘90s feels that we could have ever wanted, especially during these strange times.  The virtual reunion included (almost) all members of the dreamy boy band, JC Chasez, Chris Kirkpatrick, Joey Fatone, and of course, the member being honored, Lance Bass himself, and took place on Zoom.

Bass took it to Instagram to share a video of their online reunion with all of their loving fans. And although Bass’s birthday is officially on May, 4th, he still decided to make his background Cinco De Mayo themed (May 5th).  The rest of the band also made sure to take part in the themed virtual birthday party reunion.  Bass captioned the video of the reunion on Instagram, sharing how shocked he was that his band members still managed to make his birthday so incredibly special, despite the need for social distance right now.  He described it as both a weird birthday, however the best one yet.

And although almost all members of the boyband were present at the zoom reunion, one very important was unfortunately not there to take part in the celebrations, which was Justin Timberlake.  At the moment, there hasn’t been any kind of explanation as to what he could possibly have been doing that was more important than celebrating Bass’s birthday, but we’ll give the benefit of the doubt, for now, at least.  While some might be worried that there’s some tension in the band, Bass revealed back in April that the entire band, including JT, take part in virtual happy hours while they are apart from each other.
