In the Morning of Life
by Thomas MooreIn the morning of life, when its cares are unknown,
And its pleasures in all their new lustre begin,
When we live in a bright-beaming world of our own,
And the light that surrounds us is all from within;
Oh 'tis not, believe me, in that happy time
We can love, as in hours of less transport we may; —
Of our smiles, of our hopes, 'tis the gay sunny prime,
But affection is truest when these fade away.
When we see the first glory of youth pass us by,
Like a leaf on the stream that will never return,
When our cup, which had sparkled with pleasure so high,
First tastes of the other, the dark-flowing urn;
Then, then in the time when affection holds sway
With a depth and a tenderness joy never knew;
Love, nursed among pleasures, is faithless as they,
But the love born of Sorrow, like Sorrow, is true.
In climes full of sunshine, though splendid the flowers,
Their sighs have no freshness, their odour no worth;
\‘Tis the cloud and the mist of our own Isle of showers
That call the rich spirit of fragrancy forth.
So it is not \‘mid splendour, prosperity, mirth,
That the depth of Love's generous spirit appears;
To the sunshine of smiles it may first owe its birth,
But the soul of its sweetness is drawn out by tears.
Macaulay Culkin was one of the biggest 90s stars, appearing in many of our classic childhood favorites, such as the Home Alone movies, Richie Rich, and My Girl. His incredible talent at such a young a age served as a great advantage to him. He already had starred in more than a dozen movies by the time he was a teenager.
However, being a child star was no easy feat. When he was fourteen years old, he decided to take a break from acting to attend high school and attempt a normal life. The change seriously surprised his fans, and in recent years he’s stayed pretty private about his personal life.
His special friendship with Michael Jackson has always been an interesting point to know more about, and he’s only said that best of things about Jackson, saying that they were best friends when he was growing up.
Culkin recently was interviewed on the Ellen Degeneres’s talk show and decided to truly open up about his life. He discussed what being a child star was like and the impact it hand on him. He joked to Ellen that he is like a groundhog, only coming out once a year. He also reveals that looking the same as he did as a child, is both a curse and blessing for him.
Culkin has also admitted that he doesn’t usually match home alone, but rather avoids it. It’s been an entire 15 years since he’s watched it. But he knows of course that everyone else is watching it, explaining that people always want to sit down and watch it with him, especially around Christmas time. He finds it both flattering and creepy at the same time. During Christmas time, he tries to avoid going out as much as he can, and hates when people ask him to do the movie poster face.
Culkin also discussed with Ellen that before acting, he was in fact a professional dancer as a child. He studied ballet in appeared in The Nutcracker. He admits that he still enjoys dancing, but does not put in as much effort as he used to.
When you’re a child actor, you don’t actually see the amount of money you have until you reach the age of 18. Culkin explains that after realizing how much money he had, and understanding that he never had to work again creates a weird disconnect, making it feel like it’s not even his money.
Regardless of what he decides to do next, we’re pleased to hear he’s doing well and that he is just as appreciative of his past as we are.
