As any fashion queen knows, one of the most critical choices is deciding which shoes go with an outfit best. We all have been there standing in front of the mirror with one flat on one foot and a different one on the left. But here’s the thing…what if you could wear both? Well, it’s becoming increasingly clear that mismatched shoes are making their debut onto the runway.
Chitose Abe, the designer of Sacai, dressed her models in mismatched zebra and leopard shoes on the Fall runway in 2018. Just a year before that, Phoebe Philo showcased a pink dress paired with one white and one red boot at Celine. And years ago back in 2011, Helena Bonham-Carter (honestly, who else? She can literally do anything) showed up to the Golden Globes wearing one green and one pink shoe. The actress told the press, “Why not wear mismatched shoes? Who says we can’t? I was just having fun. For me, fashion is all about fantasy and putting unlikely things together. That’s what I love. I genuinely love dressing up.”
The trend doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon. Back in 2017, Selena Gomez rocked a pair of mules that had one square heel and one circular. Other celebs who have jumped on the mismatched train include Nicole Kidman and Naomie Harris, who have all tried this at some point.
So if you’re feeling trendy and want to take a page out of these celebrities’ playbooks, you might find that picking out your outfit in the morning a lot more fun!
