Looking Back
by Edgar A. GuestI might have been rich if I'd wanted the gold
instead of the friendships I've made.
I might have had fame if I'd sought for renown
in the hours when I purposely played.
Now I'm standing to-day on the far edge of life,
and I'm just looking backward to see
What I've done with the years and the days that were mine,
and all that has happened to me.
I haven't built much of a fortune to leave
to those who shall carry my name,
And nothing I've done shall entitle me now
to a place on the tablets of fame.
But I've loved the great sky and its spaces of blue;
I've lived with the birds and the trees;
I've turned from the splendor of silver and gold
to share in such pleasures as these.
I've given my time to the children who came;
together we've romped and we've played,
And I wouldn't exchange the glad hours spent
with them for the money that I might have made.
I chose to be known and be loved by the few,
and was deaf to the plaudits of men;
And I'd make the same choice should the chance
come to me to live my life over again.
I've lived with my friends and I've shared in their joys,
known sorrow with all of its tears;
I have harvested much from my acres of life,
though some say I've squandered my years.
For much that is fine has been mine to enjoy,
and I think I have lived to my best,
And I have no regret, as I'm nearing the end,
for the gold that I might have possessed.
In spook-tabular news, Kimberly J. Brown from Halloweentown has her own Etsy shop. The shop is called Craftily Creative and it’s filled with Halloweentown-themed things. If you ’90s kids can believe it or not, it’s been just over two decades since the Disney classic aired. And since our nostalgia can truly never be sated, this is very exciting news for us.
Brown spoke to Bustle magazine over email about the project. “I started he shop about 5 years ago with my good friend Liz because we loved crafting together on the weekends and thought we’d share some of our projects. It started with gift tags, greeting cards, and custom paintings with different quote, etc. Slowly people started requesting different quotes from Halloweentown on painted signs so we started carrying them in the shop.” One fan-loved quote from the movie: “Being normal is vastly overrated.”
Brown even turned the quote into a graphic tee! Craftily Creative currently has 35 items available, many featuring quotes from Halloweentown. She has also received a lot of love from fans. “Nw we get suggestions all the time and the sweetest notes from fans thanking us for making our stuff and telling us what the movies mean to them. I have really loved getting to create with the fans over the years in our shared love for the movies. It’s also a way for me to kind of pay homage to the fans and these films that have meant so much to me and another avenue for me to keep creating when I’m not filming and working so we’ll keep creating as long as the fans will have us.”
If you can’t get enough of Halloweentown you should check out Brown’s YouTube channel where she often answers fan questions and the film and its sequels.
