There’s a reason the 90s was such an iconic decade. It was the last decade before technology began to take over our lives, for better and for worse. We are now able to reflect on the 90s as a decade of seemingly “better days” that were filled with good music, bad fashion, and so, so much energy. Over time, we’ve also learned some truly bizarre events of the decade that also deserve recognition. Here’s some of our favorites.
1. Jennifer Aniston Hated “The Rachel”.
It was one of the most iconic looks of the decade. Women everywhere wanted their hairstylists to give them “The Rachel” cut. Too bad Jennifer Aniston hated it. She dropped the truth bomb in an interview with Glamour magazine calling the haircut “cringe-y” adding, “I think it was the ugliest haircut I’ve ever seen.” Ouch.
2. Britney Spears had a thing for her cousin.
Well, she sort of had a thing for her cousin. In the iconic music video for “…Baby One More Time”, Spears’ love interest was played by her real-life cousin Chad Spears. Must have made for a super awkward Thanksgiving that year.
3. The cast of Titanic was tripping on PCP.
During the filming of Titanic, an unknown person allegedly spiked the cast and crew’s food with the hallucinogenic drug. Around 80 people were taken to the hospital for treatment, including director James Cameron.
4. Larry David had a “no hugging, no learning” rule for Seinfeld characters.
This actually isn’t that surprising if you’ve ever seen anything Larry David has ever produced. By creating this type of guideline for each script that was written, he would ensure that the characters never got too sentimental like many other popular shows at the time (FRIENDS, Full House, ER, etc).
