Neopets Were Actually Run By Scientologists
Neopets was unarguably the most important website out there when we were 13 years old. It was every single middle school child’s most important priority and greatest love. Well, other than their beanie babies of course, but the virtual pets somehow felt more real than our actual toys.
With the epic Neopets, we were able to pick our very own creature and raise them, choosing their name, feeding it, taking care of it and playing with it. We would spin an exciting wheel in the hopes of getting as many neopoints as possible to buy our adorable pets everything they could ever need.
The game is pretty simple and easy to understand. But what’s really getting our attention now the new discovery that the Neopets website was in fact made by Scientologists, who used methods of the church.
While there are no shortage of celebrities that follow the Scientologist religion, it still remains a rather controversial topic. We’re all a little bit stunned to know who was running our favorite childhood website.
The website was created under a ”Org Board Method” which was created to help Scientologists run businesses. Many of the details are kept private, unless you go further into to the organization, but generally what the Org Board does is separate organizations into seven divisions, creating a production cycle that copies the cycle of action of the church.
Sounds decent, right? Well according to a human rights professor from Harvard, there is a lot more going on behind the scenes that we’re not aware of. Apparently the employees had to spy on other employees and share any information with the executives. If someone did not follow the mission of the organization (making money) then the organization, in the name of ethics is advised to take action against that person, such as fire them.
