The world is full of beautiful places worth exploring. But chances are you’re currently stuck at work and don’t have any more vacation days left. So let us take the beauty of the world to you! People from Finland shared photos of a rare natural phenomenon and the internet is blown away.

There is a weather event in Finland that has people reporting that they have never seen anything like it before. The mysterious formations look like balls or rocks or ice cubes. One witness of the cool phenomenon, Risto Mattila, said he had never seen anything like this in 25 years of living near the sea.

Some people drew the conclusion that this must be proof that aliens exist, but experts assure us that it’s not anything extraterrestrial. It does require some pretty special conditions though. The water temperature must be near the freezing point and the air temperature has to be just a little below zero. Plus, there has to be just the right amount of wind, the beach has to have just the right amount of sand and shallowness.

The balls usually form around a layer of slush, trash, sandstone, pebble- something. The water freezes around the object, the wind rotates it creating a sphere-shaped lump. Then they grow large enough for the waves to push them ashore. Pretty cool, huh?
