Everyone knows her as the People’s Princess, Princess Diana was a most beloved royal worldwide. Diana was the epitome of grace, beauty, and kindness. Diana’s older sister, Lady Sarah McCorquodale, dated Prince Charles first. While they were seeing each other, Diana and Charles met in 1977 at a family gathering. Princess Diana was 16 years old at the time. Sarah said shortly after their engagement, “I introduced them. I’m Cupid.”
A Normal Life
Diana’s mother bought her a flat for her 18th birthday present. The flat was located at Coleherne Court in London where she lived from July 1979 to February 1981. She lived with three other flatmates and only moved out a day after her engagement to Prince Charles became official.
Many little girls dream of becoming a princess when they grow up. Ironically, Princess Diana wanted to become a dancer. She studied ballet as a child and fell in love with dancing. Unfortunately, she grew too tall and so her dreams of dancing professionally would not come true. Anne Allan, Diana’s ballet teacher, said “she had dance in her soul….I realized the pure enjoyment that it gave her….the freeness of being able to move and dance…”
Diana left the West Health School at 16 years old after she failed two of her exams. She was then enrolled in a Swiss finishing school but was set on returning home. Putting school on hold altogether, she worked as a babysitter and cleaner before her employment at the Young England School.
