Caged Bird

By Maya Angelou

The free bird leaps on the back of the wind and floats downstream till the current ends and dips his wings in the orange sun rays and dares to claim the sky.

But a bird that stalks down his narrow cage can seldom see through his bars of rage his wings are clipped and his feet are tied so he opens his throat to sing.

The caged bird sings with fearful trill of the things unknown but longed for still and his tune is heard on the distant hill for the caged bird sings of freedom

The free bird thinks of another breeze and the trade winds soft through the sighing trees and the fat worms waiting on a dawn-bright lawn and he names the sky his own.

But a caged bird stands on the grave of dreams his shadow shouts on a nightmare scream his wings are clipped and his feet are tied so he opens his throat to sing

The caged bird sings with a fearful trill of things unknown but longed for still and his tune is heard on the distant hill for the caged bird sings of freedom.

We may not want summer to be over, but we sure do want these drool-worthy treats in our lives as soon as possible. And nothing says autumn like pumpkin spice! Well, luckily, ’tis the season! TikTok user Lahbco (@lahbco) recently posted a mouthwatering video tutorial on how to make pumpkin spice latte bread. The recipe calls for a mighty list of ingredients, but considering the whole process only takes about five steps and will leave your kitchen smelling like a legit bakery, we aren’t complaining. First things first, combine all dry ingredients into a bowl and mix. Then do the same with the wet ingredients. You’re already halfway done! Fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just incorporated. And make sure you’re lining your baking sheet with parchment paper as it makes transferring your baked loaf from the pan to a plate much easier. Place it in the oven for 40 to 50 minutes at 350°F.

This next treat is another TikTok creation! And interestingly enough, the video has Christmas music playing on it, but these s’mores cookies are just in time for the end of summer! Dubbed s’mookies they are incredibly easy to make and only require four ingredients. You’ll need graham crackers, chocolate bars, marshmallows, and cookie dough. You can either make your own cookie dough or buy the premade kind to save some time. Lay the graham crackers on a baking sheet and top with chocolate bars. Rip the marshmallows in half and place them on the chocolate bars, sticky side down. Then, take the cookie dough and flatten it so it’ll cover the graham cracker. Bake the treats following the instructions for the cookie dough and watch the dough completely overtake the s’more while it bakes. Once done, you’ll have a chocolate chip cookie that’s essentially filled with a s’more!
