There are billions of sports fans across the globe.  Currently in the U.S, it’s football season.  Every Superbowl, Americans have proven time after time, that there is no such thing as not going big.

One of the most watched performances, and most beloved aspects of the Superbowl,  is the Halftime show, with some of the biggest pop stars to have made a special performance, such as Janet Jackson, Beyonce, Justin Timberlake and Lady Gaga.

But other than all these stars, there is the guy that many of us cherish deeply. The one and only cartoon character that lives in a pineapple under the sea. SpongeBob SquarePants! The creator of the iconic character,  Stephen Hillenburg, unfortunately recently passed away due to ALS.

His legacy will forever live on, and fans are mourning his death.  In fact, so much so, that a fan has started a petition to the NFL to have a performance of the SpongeBob song, Sweet Victory performed at the Halftime soon in order to honor and remember Hillenburg.

It currently has 820,000 signatures and is aiming for one million. As of now Maroon 5 is scheduled to perform, but we will see how things develop as the time gets closer..
