As you may or may not have known, the Cats movie bombed at the box office. Taylor Swift not only starred in the film but also wrote an original song called “Beautiful Ghosts.” She along with Andrew Llyod Webber co-wrote the song together. It was up for the Best Original Song award at the Golden Globes, though it lost to Elton John’s “(I’m Gonna) Love Me Again.”
“Beautiful Ghosts” in the film was sung by the character Victoria, a cat played by ballerina Francesca Hayward. Though Taylor Swift released her recording of the song early. People have been pointing out that the song is a bit…well, it’s a lot.
First, as Cosmopolitan pointed out, Swift sang words like “chances” and “dances” with a vaguely British accent. Now, that might make sense a little given she has a British boyfriend. Taylor also dropped a Phantom of the Opera reference in the last verse.
