Bargain Shoe Store Payless Is Closing Its Doors

Bargain hunters are saying goodbye to one of the most affordable stores to score the best deals on low-cost footwear. Payless Shoes announced it will be closing its 2,100 stores in the U.S. and Puerto Rico starting in March. Some locations will have huge liquidation sales which will begin on February 17.

Not only are the physical stores are closing, but Payless’ online store will shut down as well. Though, if you really want to score a good deal, you can still purchase at their international locations in Latin America.

Payless has been in the spotlight recently. Designer Christian Siriano worked with Payless for his 2019 New York Fashion Week show. Siriano’s models rocked Payless shoes down the runway. Siriano also worked with Payless in 2017.

Payless launched a campaign in November 2018 to promote their footwear. They opened a faux luxury shoe store in Los Angeles called Palessi. They went all out for their opening with flashing lights and over the top displays. Style influencers who came for the opening couldn’t tell the footwear was, in fact, Payless discount shoes. Attendees noted the quality, “classy” and “sophisticated” look. Some even paid $600 for a single pair of shoes! The influencers were shocked when they found out that Palessi was actually Payless.

Regardless of their viral ad campaign, it was not enough to keep Payless doors open. Payless will begin closing its stores in March 2019.
