The Best Things About Rom Coms
Claire Miles - April 26, 2018

We all were completely in love with rom coms. And unfortunately, they just don’t make them like they used to. With rom-coms pretty much dead, it’s the perfect time to pay a tribute to the great romantic comedies of the late ’90s.  The ’90s were the golden time for romantic comedies, and here’s why.

Well it began in 1990 with Pretty Woman. Julia Roberts was at the peak of her fame. Together with a perfect fairy tale plot and the most quotable lines, this movie had everything and more.  Julia Roberts only continued from there, with Runaway Bride, Something to Talk About, I Love Trouble and My Best Friend’s Wedding.  She was basically the queen of rom-com.

Then there was the star-crossed bitter enemies, Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, who were also the dream team. In Sleepless in Seattle, we’re not sure if they’ve got chemistry, but we still fell head over heals for them. And then in You’ve Got Mail,  we’re proven that the chemistry is in fact there, making them the epitome of the romantic comedy couple.

But then came Clueless, which was basically the rom-com of the century. The flick was based on a Jane Austen novel. It had more quotable lines than we can count and we all gained a new found crush on Paul Rudd. In 1995, at the same time as the release of Clueless, we were also graced with While You Were Sleeping, with the talented and beautiful Sandra Bullock.
