The Game of Thrones season finale is just a few short days away! Fans are praying to the old gods and the new asking for their favorite characters to survive season eight. There are a lot of loose ends that need tidying up, as well as the answer to the question the whole series is basically all about: who will sit on the Iron Throne?
Fans are waiting for answers and the writers need to give us some answers. Especially because the television hit is known for its excessive blood and gore, it’s like a reprieve to see our beloved characters fall in love. So when we saw Jaime Lannister and Brienne of Tarth form a close connection a few seasons back, we got excited. If you’re Team Braime then you are probably wondering if the two almost-kind-of-sort-of lovers will ever reunite? Actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau knows the answer and is ready to talk.
The last we saw Jaime he was headed north. In an interview with Huffington Post, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (the actor who plays Jaime Lannister) said, “Well, he is heading north. I don’t think you can assume that he’s going to make it up there, but who knows. For sure, we see him head north. He might be eaten by dragons, you never know. Or he might just stumble, things happen. Or he might find the love of his life and suddenly he’s like, ‘God, this is it. No more.'”
The “love of his life” huh? That little phrase thrown in there had some fans’ ears perk up. Maybe Nikolaj wasn’t being serious and he has to remain close-lipped about the ending. But let’s dig deeper, shall we?
Queen Cersei and her twin brother Ser Jaime Lannister have had an illicit romantic relationship since childhood. Cersei’s three children- Joffrey, Myrcella, and Tommen- were all fathered by Jaime. So, technically, that makes Jaime, Cersei, and Tyrion siblings and second cousins. And you thought you had family drama! Getting back to the point, their relationship is clearly not a healthy one. Season 7 showed a lot of tension build up between the two lover-siblings resulting in Jaime walking away from Cersei. Nikolaj had said Jaime was ready to grow a lot this season in terms of independence. Season 8 is his chance to grow into the individual we all know he can be. As Nikolaj said:
“We had seven years to build up to this moment where he finally says no to her. His whole life has been about trying to navigate around her and protect her and do whatever he could to do to be there for her. Now, suddenly, he can’t do what she wants him to do. She’s overstepped her boundaries, and clearly, they have been stretching, but this time something snapped.”
Following that interview Nikolaj did with the Huffington Post, the reporter called out Brienne as being the love of Jaime’s life, Nikolaj answered evasively. “I know how it ends but…no, I can’t comment on that.” Which sounds to some like a confirmation? Regardless of what happens, there have been reports of the series finale wrapping up nicely. We’ll just have to wait until April 14th!
