Marc Gordon - April 9, 2018

Run Forest, run!  This classic and powerful film will bring you to tears, even decades later.  It is one of the most loved movies known to man kind, having won a tons of awards for best director, actor, screenplay and picture.  It was based on Winston Groom’s 1986 novel and the on screen version has some hidden secret’s that we’re about to reveal.

It is little known that there were some other actors were considered for the role of Gump. One of them John Travolta, who turned the role down himself. Chevy Chase and Bill Murray were also considered for the role. Winston Groom, the author of the novel apparently saw John Goodman as his ideal Gump.

The voice of Forrest Gump played by Tom Hanks was based on the actual accent of Michael Connor Humphreys, the boy who played the young Forrest Gump.  The inital plan was to teach Humphreys to speak in Hank’s accent, but upon the suggestion of Hanks they ended up adjusting his accent to sound like the boy.

In terms of the directors, Both Barry Sonnenfeld and Terry Gilliam turned down the chance to direct the film before it was given to Robert Zemeckis.  Another fun fact about the movie is that the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. was invented specifically for the movie and is now a restaurant chain with 39 locations.
