Timeless Crush-Worthy Heartthrobs
Laura Lee - March 26, 2018

When I was nine-years-old, my mother ordered me a subscription to Tiger Beat magazine. It was then that I fell in love for the first time. On the cover staring back at me were three blonde brothers with hair longer than mine and eyes that seemed to possess the power of hypnosis, keeping me in what can only be described as some type of euphoric, timewarped gaze. Hanson, the only boy band of the 90s that mattered, had stolen my heart. Specifically Zac Hanson, the youngest of the singing trio, had stolen my heart.

As a nine-year-old, I imagine I chose Zac because he was the one closest to my age, so obviously I had the greatest chance of marrying him… obviously. Well, I didn’t marry Zac Hanson (although I’m pretty sure he’s happily married with a few kids by now), but my story is not unique.

Each generation seems to have their own iconic figures that become embedded into our culture as first crushes, teenage heartthrobs, and nostalgic symbolism. Did yours make our list?

One of the most legendary ladies of the century, Raquel is the original pin-up girl, as well as an entire generation’s first crush, ever. Her flawless beauty and genuine talent launched her to international superstardom.

James Dean

As the original hipster, James Dean was the definition of existential disillusionment. Popular throughout the 40s and 50s, Dean made a career as an actor, and rose to international fame with the release of ‘Rebel Without a Cause’.
