What It Was Like Being Ferris Bueller’s Best Friend
Laura Lee - July 26, 2018

We can all remember the first time we saw the epic movie Ferris Bueller’s Day Off , and became totally obsessed with his charisma and charm (and of course wanted to take a day off too).  He was capable of getting anyone to do anything he could ever dream of, even if it was dangerous. He could have started a cult without anyone even realizing. He was completely iconic.

But we also enjoyed his friends and those around him. Those that he surrounded himself with made him even greater. There was his girlfriend, Sloan, who was also awesome with her super stylish white leather jacket. However, we’re really here to talk about Cameron Frye, Ferris’ best friend and right hand man.

Alan Ruck played the role of Cameron and recently shared what it was really like during the movie.  He heard about the project since he was in a play with Matthew Broderick (Ferris).  Ruck explains that while working on the play, Broderick was given the role of Ferris and actually asked Ruck if he should take it.

Ruck also wanted to take part, and immediately starting to pursue a role in the movie for himself. At first, they tried to turn him away, saying that he was too old.  But Ruck knew he was perfect for the role, especially since he always played together with Broderick. He did not give up and fought for the role.

Ruck was excited to share the movie with his 7 year old daughter recently, shocking her that he didn’t have gray hair at the time.  He also reveals that although the clothing wasn’t specifically planned, that they really helped tell the story, such as the Redwings jersey and his very square outfits.

Ruck has had a very successful career, but we will always know him as Cameron.
